Come Visit Nepal

Nepal is a small country nestled in the Himalayas with China on the northern border and India on the eastern, western, and southern borders. As you fly into Kathmandu Valley, the capital of Nepal, you see breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Just after you leave the airport, you immediately see the tremendous richness of the Nepali Culture.

The majority of the people in Nepal practice Hinduism, but there are many Nepalese who practice both Hinduism and Buddhism, or only practice Buddhism. The Nepalese I met when I was there were all gentle, soft-spoken people, very warm and welcoming. From central Kathmandu to the quaint Nepali villages, all the people were easy to talk to and very helpful. The Nepali culture is exceptionally caring and respectful of families with children, they make every effort to ensure you and your children are comfortable. If you are planning to travel with a child, Nepal is one place where you can get everything you need. All the big shopping centers in Kathmandu carry all the products you need and want for your baby; from diapers, formulas, and shampoo, to American and European products, it's all there.

Most restaurants and hotels cater to the American or European traveler, but you can find several authentic Nepali Restaurants that offer tasty Nepalese Cuisine. When you encounter people along the way, they do their best to offer help. In most restaurants they provide some form of entertainment for the children so you can enjoy your meal. If you have a chance to visit Thamel, be sure and check out my favorite restaurant Decheling Garden Restaurant and Bar. It is very kid-friendly with a beautiful garden patio and has a menu that caters to lots of individual preferences.

When visiting the various holy sites around Kathmandu you will see a wide variety of temples, statues, and stupas, most dating back to the 17th century. The Great Stupa in Boudhanath should be first on your list of places to see. It's surrounded by shops with vendors selling all sorts of Nepali goods. Another favorite of mine is Pullahari Monastery, it is located on a hill surrounded by prayer flags and precious objects, with majestic views of the Kathmandu Valley. Last but not the least, Swayambhu is one of the most visited and pivotal pilgrimage spots in Nepal with breathtaking views and an inspiring history.

Despite the political turmoil, Nepal is still a very magical place and everest base camp trek is the thrilling trekking destination. The political instability may have deterred some tourists however, being a tourist in Nepal is still quite safe. Nonetheless, I do recommend going through a travel agency such as Intrekasia.com, as they are well-prepared to make the necessary arrangements in the event that a problem occurs. I hope you'll have a chance to visit Nepal, and enjoy its ancient history and exquisitely unique culture.
